From a full declaration year, and mainly aged in the Douro before being transferred to Vila Nova de Gaia, it is a lovely Colheita with great finesse and concentration. If the Barão de Vilar 1970 is all about power and grip the 1977 is softer, almost feminine in style. A truly beautiful Port.
Mark Squires (Robert parker 2015) 90 points: "The 1977 Colheita Tawny Port is a blend of 30% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 15% Tinta Roriz, 20% Tinta Barroca and 5% Tinto Cão. It was bottled with 118 grams of sugar and a bar-top cork in 2018. Don't automatically assume that a great vintage year is going to lead to a great Colheita. For its age, this has only modest concentration and respectable power, but it is too understated. On the other hand, it has that extra overlay of complexity to go with its bright and lively feel."
